Lauren Poolman had no way of knowing that her love of art would become an important part of a larger dream. Being chosen to travel to Australia during her sophomore year as part of the “People to People Ambassador Program” was beyond her imagination. Getting selected by the program meant Lauren would be one of only forty students from Southwest Michigan who’d made it through the elimination process. She had to obtain three recommendations, fill out multiple forms and be interviewed by an administrative panel to secure a placement.
After receiving the great news that she was one of the forty selected, Lauren discovered she had one last obstacle to overcome. Lauren has to raise the money needed for her travel and accommodations. “I knew that my family would help as much as possible but I felt that there had to be a more creative way to secure the funds. That’s when I thought about using my artwork. In 2007, Saugatuck High School chose a piece I’d submitted titled, “DREAM”, to be part of a program called “Art à Loan”. This program is an award-winning student art lease program where patrons lease the artwork for public display in their office, shop, restaurant, or common room for one year. My “DREAM” was displayed at The Annex Coffee Shop in Saugatuck and is now displayed in our home. Having received many positive remarks about “DREAM” I decided to use the piece to raise money to help towards my trip to Australia.

A 12 x 18 print or note cards of “DREAM” can be purchased by visiting our order page, contacting me at laurensdream@comcast.net, by stopping in at The South Haven Center For the Arts, At Last, located in Glenn, Michigan open Saturdays & Sundays from 11am-5pm or Caravanserai Bakery in Saugatuck. I think it would be a unique gift of affordable, original art to display in children’s rooms, personal offices or homes where adults who like to “DREAM” enjoy having their coffee while reading a good book. My prints can be framed as shown by stopping in at Lakeshore Framing in South Haven as they will be making a contribution to my "DREAM" as well for every print they frame."
Thank you for your support in obtaining my “DREAM”, it is truly appreciated! Lauren Poolman
Proceeds for the sales of “DREAM” will also benefit the community because Lauren is donating a percentage of what is earned to The South Haven Center For the Arts, The Saugatuck Center For the Arts, the South Haven Memorial Library and the Saugatuck-Douglas Library.
